DIY Project: Heated Water Hose
Many people spend between $100-$120 for an RV heated hose to use in the winter months. However, they can get the same results for less money. I bought the Camco Heated hose but two months after purchasing the hose, the heating element stopped working and I was outside the return window for Amazon. Consequently, I decided to have a DIY project and make a heated water hose myself, so when something breaks, I can fix it easily and continue on with my life.
In this blog, I will show you how I created my heated hose that was useful for many years in the harsh winters in the mountains of Washington state.
Even on a cold day, I have water flowing into my RV by using basic items from a local hardware store or Amazon.
Steps for Heated Water Hose Project:
Connecting the Hose Into the RV:
Meanwhile, I used two items in the picture that are not necessarily part of the project. Certainly, they are useful and worth having so here’s what they are:
- A 90-degree elbow into the RV that takes most of the pressure and the strain off the intake connection of water into the RV
- Water pressure regulator gauge to ensure that water pressure does not fluctuate enough to damage the water lines inside the RV
I used the Camco TastePURE water hose as my winter hose because it is skinny and very flexible. Since I have used this during the summer, I didn’t have to purchase an extra hose. You can use any hose that you would like, maybe even one you already have to cut down on costs.
Setting up the water Hose Heating Element:
First, I use the Frost King Heating Cable, I started from the water source and aligned it with the length of the hose, and I taped the heated cable to the hose using electrical tape, ensuring the heating cable is staying as close as possible to the hose.
Adding the Pool Noodles:
Secondly, I added all the pool noodles around the house and making sure the open end is facing the ground; you wouldn’t want the water to get inside and freeze.
Also, you can order the colorful version of the pool noodles if you want it to be festive pool noodles. If not, just get the plain black ones I got.
